Ian Somerhalder is becoming quite the supportive boyfriend to Nikki Reed, while it appears his ex-girlfriend Nina Dobrev is trying to wrap her head around their budding new romance.
The Vampire Diaries actor, 35, took to his Twitter to shout out Reed after the Twilight actress asked fans to help get a dog adopted. "Some one please give Kate a GREAT HOME!!!! PLEASE!" the hunk tweeted on July 23, along with a link to Reed's previous post about the homeless dog.

Meanwhile, Somerhalder's ex and Vampire Diaries costar Dobrev has been using her Instagram as a platform to share inspirational and, at times, cryptic quotes. On July 21—the same day Us Weekly exclusively revealed Somerhalder and Reed were dating—Dobrev posted a snap of a poem which read: "I give / You take, / I break / You fake / PITY, / I bleed / You dive in deep / Into my blood / As thick as syrup. / Tell me are you / A mosquito?"
This isn't the first time the two girlfriends have gone for the same guy. In fact, Dobrev and Reed both had flings with Dancing With the Stars pro Derek Hough. Reed briefly dated Julianne Hough's brother after splitting from husband Paul McDonald in March; a source later told Us, "it was never going to be super serious … Nikki just got out of a marriage!"
Despite Dobrev's cryptic quotes, the actress revealed to Nylon she's in a good place. "I don't like any kind of negativity," she told the mag. "I try to be good to everyone, whether it's a love, a friend, an ex. I'll always try to treat people the way I want to be treated."
