Kendrick Lamar sang “Shake It Off.” Taylor Swift rapped “Backseat Freestyle.” And now, finally, the two are on the same track.
Kind of.
Thanks to The Hood Internet, we’ve now got ourselves a mash-up of “Shake It Off” and “Backseat Freestyle.” At first, you might be thinking, “This can’t actually work, can it?” And, at first, it feels like it won’t. But then, suddenly, it just kind of does. Beats are layered, lyrics are swapped, and general head-nodding catchiness ensues.
The first hat tips between these two started back in September, when the “Blank Space” singertold Rolling Stone that she knew “every word” to the TDE rapper’s good kid, m.A.A.d city track — and then she rapped it in celebration of the monstrous first-week sales of her album, 1989.
Kendrick, meanwhile, did his part by admitting in an interview that he loved “Shake It Off” — and then he proceeded to sing it. Which then led to a DJ playing it for him during a visit to K104 in Dallas, and the Compton native freestyling over the hit.
